Just before you go ‘aww’, that’s not my wife and that’s not Baby Jo. Lol.
Every father, every mother, and every guardian must have thought about this very important question: What is my baby saying? The answer is simple, and I’m sure most parents have come to that conclusion too: Observe and use your imagination.
There’s nothing more glorious than hearing a baby coo and gurgle and babble. It warms your heart like a fireplace in winter, melts it like butter, and molds it into a squeaky toy that involuntarily goes ooh and ahhs and whatever creative response comes whenever your bundle of joy speaks.
In this episode, I’ll define what I think Baby Jo means when he baby-talks.
Baby J gurgles (when he initiates the conversation): “Grr grr grr”
My interpretation: “I’m very happy. Are you too?”
Baby J gurgles (when we try to respond the same way): “Grr grr grr”
PS: This reminds me of Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. ‘I’m Groot’ has different meanings for different contexts.
My interpretation: “what are you saying? You sound and look silly, but I love it!”
Baby Jay shouts (when papa and mama are having a conversation that does not include him): “Eh!”
My interpretation: “Hey guys, I’m here!”
Baby Jay shouts (when he’s doing something else and mama is trying to get his attention): “ah!”
My interpretation: “Madam, be guided!”
Baby Jay says (when he tries to put something foreign in his mouth): “aii aii”
My interpretation: “where’re mama’s boobs?”
Who the heck knows what goes on in their minds when babies talk? What’s important are the facial expressions that signify joy. I am, and I know you feel the same way, always enthusiastic about playing along.
