INSIGHTS ON LIFE

BEING HOOKED TO THE IDEA OF SELF-DEVELOPMENT

Once you get hooked on the idea of self-development, you never get away from it and those who aren’t hooked will you see as crazy. ~ Bob Proctor
Just the same way some people get hooked to addictive substances because of the pleasure they derive from them, certain other people get hooked to the idea of bettering themselves. The different modes of personal development activities like feel-good pills which makes them better. It is like a kind of obsession took over them, making them go out of their way to get what keeps them in pleasure at the idea of becoming better humans through self-development.
Addictions are formed by habitual patterns. The pleasure which the brain receives from addiction makes it want more and the more it gets more, the more it wants more.
When the pleasure of self-development is communicated to the brain over time, the brain begins to desire more. Though those neural pathways in the brain formed by negative addictions will still influence actions because they are still there, but once new habits take over them, these neural pathways thin out. The new habit now takes over the brain and builds new pathways that keeps
the new habits functional.
Imagine the joy of loving yourself grow. The joy of seeing yourself change negative thought patterns in your life. The joy of altering limiting paradigms to allow you to see the world in a new light. The joy of knowing more and being able to do more. The joy of not being lazy to spend 1 or 2 hours reading a book every day. The joy of realizing your potential. The joy of enjoying a relationship with people through social skills and emotional intelligence. And, above all, the joy of being able to measure yourself and say this was where I was yesterday and this is who I have stretched to be today! This result wants to keep you repeating the journey of growth and discovery. This keeps you addicted to becoming your best self.
Those who grow in life are those who know that the ultimate purpose of Life is for all to grow and express limitless potentials. The moment these ones discover this fact, they never stopped taking advantage of learning experiences and opportunities. They attend seminars, pay for courses, buy and read books, and place themselves in positions for exploits.
How hooked are you to the idea of personal development? Do you value it or you think it is just a waste of time? Do you get discouraged by the loneliness and the dark holes of yourself you have to face to become better? What will separate you from common people is your willingness to grow up beyond their level of being and that means having the courage to confront the light and dark sides of your being. Don’t bother that they call you crazy. It is one thing to be crazy for steady self-development and in being your best self and another to be crazily in love with comfort zones, old selves, and mediocre people who aren’t going anywhere.
