The end of March is one of the
most anticipated times of the year in Japan, since this is when the whole
country gets painted in white and tender pink as its myriad cherry blossoms (or
’sakura’) come into flower. This spectacle is really something that is worth
seeing in person, and so numerous tourists from all over the globe come here
for Ohanami — big ’blossom-viewing’ parties, with numerous picnics and even
karaoke taking place in the public parks beneath these exquisite and glorious
trees.
