POEMS BY RUKENNY

My mind is a war zone
where I endlessly fight voices
Struggling to find my identity.
Who am I?
Am I just a wandering breath
Waiting for the kiss of death to find a home?
I hear the voices
“You’re not enough”
“You’ll never measure up”
They roar and scream me down
My dreams punctured to the ground.

My body is a car.
I’m a passenger in it
And these voices take the driver’s seat.
